Today. This is the day you are in. It’s Friday, January 29th, 2016. It isn’t Saturday, the 30th. It isn’t summer break. It isn’t three weeks ago. *Thank you, Maddy, for pointing that out, great start.*
Today is the day God has made for you. We cannot live in the past, dwelling on mistakes or really great and perfect days. Nor can we live for tomorrow, always waiting for something different than what we have. The point of life isn’t to not want the day we’re in, the point is to seize the day and to be thankful for the blessing of today.
Everyone does it, though. Everyone is always wanting the weekend, everyone is excited for Spring Break, nobody truly enjoys Mondays, so many people think about yesterday, the list could keep going and going. The point of this is to inform you that instead of just “getting through” today, we should rejoice in it.
“This is the day the LORD has made. We will rejoice and be glad in it.”
Psalm 118:24 NLT
This is the day that The Lord has made for us. This is the day we must be excited for. Tomorrow has it’s own worries and it is a completely new day in itself. Yesterday is over, as we should be with it.
I pinky promise you, friends, there will never be another January 29, 2016. Live it. See what new experiences or adventures might occur. Give a chance to meeting new people. Live in kindness, do something for someone. There is not a single day, I’m sure of it, where God was planning it out and thought, “Eh, let’s just make a waste of this one.” That does not happen, amigos. He makes every single day new and unique, every day is a blessing and if we pay attention to Him and enjoy the journey, we will catch the blessings that He puts into today.
We don’t have an eternity on this earth, and none of these days are meant to be dreadful. Sure, there will be challenges. We will win some and we will lose some. Things that you didn’t plan into today will come up. But, everything happens for a reason. Make the most out of the days you have here, because someday you would do anything to come back to today and take opportunities that you didn’t take when they were available.
God plans out every single one of our days moment by moment. So, why would we not want to experience and love what He has put into today? We are so worried about tomorrow that we ignore the goodness and the blessings of today. I don’t know about you, but the fact the same God who rules the world, made this whole entire earth we live on, and decides your destiny, also puts effort into us daily and traces our path for us when we wake up, is pretty dang awesome.
Stop waiting for tomorrow. Stop waiting for the weekend. Stop waiting for next year. Start today. Take advantage of the opportunities you are given today, these opportunities may never be present in your life again. Today is a good day to start. Today is a perfect day to try something new. Today is the day.
“After looking at the way things are on this earth, here’s what I’ve decided is the best way to live: Take care of yourself, have a good time, and make the most of whatever job you have for as long as God gives you life. And that’s about it. That’s the human lot. Yes, we should make the most of what God gives, both the bounty and the capacity to enjoy it, accepting what’s given and delighting in the work. It’s God’s gift! God deals out joy in the present, the now. It’s useless to brood over how long we might live.”
Ecclesiastes 5:18-20, MSG
So, instead of being excited for this weekend’s plans, get excited for time with your family today. Get excited for your next class. Get excited for the little blessings that are thrown into your day.
Rejoice in today, because it has a purpose. Even if you don’t think it does, God does. And, whose opinion matters in the end?
That’s what I thought.
